Soipan Tuya says net worth rose to Ksh243M

Defence Cabinet Secretary nominee Soipan Tuya has declared her net worth to be Ksh243 million.

Soipan, who previously served under the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, was worth Ksh156 million in October 2022 during her vetting.

“My net worth stands at Ksh243 million. I was at Ksh154 million from the last vetting,” Tuya stated.

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Thursday, August 1, 2024, she attributed the increase to the appreciation of assets, private business ventures, and the acquisition of a new asset within Nairobi.

“It is largely from the appreciation of assets, private business and one asset acquired within Nairobi,” she revealed.

Tuya expressed her gratitude to President William Ruto for nominating her for the position noting that she is suitable for the job and promised to deliver.

“In appreciating and thanking His Excellency President William Ruto for nominating me for this position. I believe I have the requisite experience and training for the job,” she said.

During the session, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula disclosed that Tuya was a s student at his law firm back in the day.

“I should disclose that the nominee, Soipan Tuya, was my pupil in the early years in my law firm.”

Tuya, no military background

Earlier, Tuya acknowledged that if appointed to the position, her lack of a military background would necessitate extensive consultation.

“There is much for me to learn regarding military operations and administration,” she said.

Adding;

“I will heavily rely on my teamwork and consultative skills to grasp the operational and administrative responsibilities of the uniformed sector within the ministry.”

Tuya affirmed her comprehension of her role as the principal adviser to the President and Parliament on policy matters.

“I intend to blend my civilian expertise with insights gained from the military side to provide well-rounded and effective advice,” she said.

She also said she is committed to fostering a spirit of teamwork within the ministry, especially within the Defence Council.
