US President Donald J. Trump has finally admitted that his presidency has come to an end following the certification of Joe Biden’s victory by the Congress.
In a statement published online by White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Dan Scavino, President Trump agree to an orderly transition of power on January 20, ending days of brinksmanship in which he cast doubt on the election results.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!,” said Trump.
The president, however, did not make reference to the violent protest at the Capitol building, which led to the deaths of four people.
According to CNN, Trump’s statement was designed in part to prevent a wave of resignations from the West Wing and broader administration.
