Long-distance trucks and lorry drivers from North Rift region and neighbouring countries have urged the government to allow them to operate at night for the two days that major roads will be closed on the highway.

They argued that the move would facilitate the smooth flow of transit goods and containers worth billions of shillings in the region and the neighbouring countries without disruption.

Inspector-General Hillary Mutyambai announced last Saturday that the highway will be closed from Tuesday 12pm to Wednesday at 7pm during the burial of former President Moi at his Kabarak home in Nakuru county.

The drivers led by Emmanuel Mboko from Uganda said the closure of the roads will affect transport business.

“I will be forced to spend extra money for the two days I will be idle.”

Uasin Gishu police boss Johnstone Ipara has said they will implement the directive to letter to ensure major roads remains safe during and after the burial of the late Moi.
