Tributes for the fallen veteran journalist Robin Njogu started pouring in on Monday night on social media following his death at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
Njogu, who was the Managing Editor, Radio at the Royal Media Services (RMS) succumbed to Covid-19 after battling the disease for three weeks.
A highly-experienced journalist with a soft spot for digital news, Robin’s career stretched decades and saw him rise to the position of news editor at Capital FM, Managing Editor, Radio at Nation Media Group and later Managing Editor, Radio News at Royal Media Services.
Among leaders who mourned his death included Deputy President (DP) William Ruto, Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) Farida Karoney, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
DP Ruto described him as a friendly, humble, and a good man, traits many of the journalists who passed through his hands would attest to and affirm as true.
“As the media fraternity can attest, Robin Njogu was friendly, humble, and a good man. He was a skilled, dedicated, and professional radio journalist who edited and reported on issues openly, independently, and honestly,” said the DP.
On the other hand, Lands CS Karoney, who served as Robin’s boss at RMS when she was the Chief Operations Officer, said his death was a huge loss not only to his family but also to the media fraternity.
ICT CS Mucheru, who had appointed Robin to a 15-member task force on the improvement of government information and public communications, said the veteran journalist had contributed immensely to the development of radio news in the country.
At RMS, Robin was in-charge of radio news content for over 13 radio stations, including Radio Citizen, Hot 96 FM, Inooro FM, and Muuga FM, among others.
Many media professionals who worked with Robin or had interacted with him were gutted by the news of his passing.
