Thursday blackout: 6 counties brace for hours without electricity

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power outage set for Thursday, August 15, 2024, that will affect six counties across Kenya.

The outage is planned for maintenance purposes, with different regions experiencing temporary power cuts throughout the day.

In a statement on its official website, Kenya Power said, “Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as follows: (Periodic interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of power lines, connect new customers, or replace power lines during construction, etc.).”

The temporary outage is expected to have a significant impact on various sectors and daily activities in these areas.

Kenya Power said counties affected by this blackout include; Kiambu, Nakuru, Uasin Gichu, Kakamega, Meru and Mombasa counties.

Kiambu

Area: Lipton, Marbrouke, Kinyogori, Limuru Girls School.

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Part of Bata, Marbrouke Tea Ltd, Limuru Tea, Kinyogori High Sch, St Francis of Asisi Limuru, Limco Shoe Co. Ltd, Roromo, St Thomas Sch Mbukinya, Kiambethu Farm & adjacent customers.

Nakuru

Area: Ol Rongai, Tulwobmoi

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected:  Whole of Olrongai Center, Gitau Center, Olrongai Raymond, Komen area, Duka Moja, Redwing, Tulwobmoi, Agrico Potatoes, Marigo B & adjacent customers.

Uasin Gishu

Area: Lemook Center Kapseret, Nilkath Quarry, Shajnaand Quarry

Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Kapseret Lemook, Mosombor Sch, Kapteldon, Nilkath Quarry, Shajnaand Quarry & adjacent customers.

Kakamega

Area: Rondo Hotel, Ireho, Chirovani

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected:   Rondo Htl, Chirovani Mkt, Ireho Mkt, Kisia Mkt & adjacent customers.

Meru

Area: Kibirichia, Naari, Ntugi

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Kigure Kinoru, Gatobora, Mpuri Nyayo Tea Zone, Naari Mkt, St Dominic Naari, Gitimene, Karimaiga, Muruguma Mkt, Nkuriga Booster, Kibirichia Mkt, Kibirichia Girls, Kibirichia Boys Sec, Ntirimiti, Kiandugui Health Centre, Kiandugui Safricom Booster, Kamiti Pry, Marania KBC, Kenya School of Adventure Marania & adjacent customers.

Area: Embori, Kikwetu, Kisima, PJ Dave Farms, Homegrown

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected:  Embori Farm, AAA Flowers, Uhuru Flowers, Kisima Farm, Kisima Mkt, Tambuzi, Bloomingdale, PJ Dave, Tamba Ngombe & adjacent customers.

Mombasa

Area: Shanzu

Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Places affected: Pride Inn, Serena Htl, Pavilion, Shanzu Garden, Georgia Apartment, Kenya, White Sands, Bamuri Beach Htl & adjacent customers.
