Unknown people broke into the Kibos police post armoury and stole a G3, a Liai and an MP5 rifles on Saturday night.

Kisumu County police commander said a total of 155 rounds of ammunition were also stolen during the 11pm raid.

The officer who was manning the report office, Constable Peter Ochieng Odenyo, said he had briefly gone to his house leaving the post unattended and when he came back he found the armoury having been broken into.

“Police Constable Ochieng Odenyo who was the report office personnel said that he had briefly gone to his house and when he came back he found the armoury having been broken into by unknown persons and al the three rifles that were there stolen. Sgt David Makali [in charge] rushed to the scene and found the steel door to the armoury wide open and all the three rifles, a G3, a Liai and an MP5, 2G3 magazines, 2 MP5 magazines, 135 rounds of 7.62mm and 20 rounds of 9mm calibre missing,” said the police report.

Police said that the armoury padlock was not found at the scene of crime.

Efforts to track down the suspects who are said to have escaped through the nearby sugarcane plantation were hindered by heavy rains.

By Sunday 10 am, the suspects had not been traced.

In April 2019, a similar incident occurred at Kamworon Administration Police Post in Aldai, Nandi County when the armoury was broken into as officers were watching a UEFA Champions League match.

The culprits stole three G3 rifles, each loaded with 20 bullets.

The officers had travelled 4km from their station just to watch Champions League quarter-final matches pitting Barcelona against Manchester United and Juventus against Ajax.
