Three Form Two students at a Makueni secondary school have been arrested on suspicion of attempting to poison their colleague in a row over a boyfriend.

The school’s deputy principal filed a report at Makueni Police Station, revealing one of the suspects had confessed to being part of the three-member group that planned to kill their classmate, whom they accused of being a boyfriend-snatcher.

The suspects allegedly planned to poison their colleague using chemicals stolen from the school’s laboratory last Thursday, July 18.

“The said chemicals are hydrochloric acid, Benedict’s solution and phenolphthalein indicator,” said the deputy principal.

“[Suspect’s name withheld] was to execute the plan by lacing the victim’s lunch meal with one of the chemicals namely phenolphthalein indicator while the other two kept vigil. However, the plan failed when the executor refused to execute it, thus leading to a quarrel amongst themselves,” said the deputy principal.

The disagreement among the three suspects prompted one of them to disclose to their class prefect details of the shocking scheme.

“The accused [name withheld] and the victim are fighting over a boyfriend, who happens to be a student at a nearby boys’ school. The key suspect requested her two friends to help her ‘punish’ the victim,” said the girls’ school deputy principal.

The suspects are being held at Makueni Police Station as investigations into the allegations continue.
