Tension engulfed the corridors of power after Treasury boss Henry Rotich, a man considered by many as a close confidant of President Uhuru Kenyatta, stepped into the offices of DCI for interrogation over the stalled Sh63 million Arror and Kimwarer dams.

This is the second time the man considered a non-controversial Cabinet secretary with a quiet mien,  set to face investigators over the controversial dam, but the first time for a Treasury Minister since independence.

Analysts say this is a pointer to a possible Cabinet reshuffle.

A  University of Nairobi lecturer, Dr Samwel Nyandemo, says Rotich must be prosecuted for making fishy payments to Italian firm CMC Di Ravenna for the construction of two dams that were never there.

Mega corruptions

He warned that the government has drastically changed and friendship is no longer an issue after mega corruption deals rocked the boat. “The government is fighting corruption and it doesn’t matter whether you were once a blue-eyed boy or not. You are on your own,” Nyandemo said.

Independent consultant John Kirimi says this is an indication of a possible reshuffle of the Cabinet at a time when things are not looking up.

“For them (DCI and DPP) making such high-level arrests is not in vain. There must be enough evidence,” said Michael Mburugu of PKF Consulting.  “Someone has to take financial responsibility for the dams project,” he said, adding that such deals were hurting the economy.
