A middle-aged man from Nakuru County was on Thursday, March 19, charged with defilement and committing an indecent act with a child.

Antony Ng’eno, a teacher at Mau Summit Primary School in Kuresoi North Sub-County, is alleged to have defiled a Kipsata Primary School pupil, 16, at his house in Sirikwa area. The incident happened on Tuesday, March 17, two days after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the closure of all learning institutions in the country for at least 30 days over coronavirus concerns.

The victim, a female Class Seven pupil, is said to have attempted suicide after the ordeal. After being rescued, she is said to have fled home, but was later found.

The suspect denied the two charges before Molo Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita, and was released on Ksh300, 000 bond or a cash bail of Ksh100, 000.

The Prosecution, led by Joseph Limo, urged the court to detain Ng’eno at the Kuresoi Police Station should he fail to raise bail or post bond.

Limo further requested the court to have the victim protected and closely monitored by Kuresoi police officers after she attempted suicide following the ordeal.

Ng’eno will be taken back to court on April 21 for a mention of the case against him.
