Succession politics continue to heat up in Western Kenya with Tanga Tanga leaders defying gathering ban to drum up support for Deputy President William Ruto in the vote-rich bloc.

The leaders gathered on Sunday, August 2, at the home of Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga in Mwiyenga in Bungoma County.

Speaking at the gathering, Kimilili MP Didmus Baraza claimed that Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya are fronting Kanu chairman, Gideon Moi, in the region.

The two Western political supremos held a meeting with the Baringo Senator Moi alongside the powerful trade unionist, Francis Atwoli.

Moi hosted 12 leaders from Western Kenya on Saturday, August 1, at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.

Former Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale, who is eyeing a governorship in 2022, urged Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula to join the DP Ruto bandwagon.

On his part, Bumula MP Mabonga said that the region will not support the Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of not being development-minded.
