Kenya Power has announced a temporary power outage that will affect Nairobi and four other counties on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 27, 2024, the utility company cited routine network maintenance as the reason for the temporary blackout.
In Nairobi County, the blackout will affect areas including ICD, Mombasa Road, and surrounding locations. Specific businesses and landmarks affected include Kyang’ombe, Heavy Engineering, Tile & Carpet, Kings Business Park, Powergen Renewable Energy, Vimit Converters, Sanden Intercool (K), Enyon Ltd, Hasbah Kenya, Pilitrade Centre, Posh Auto Body, Wall Street, Jumbo Chem, Ramtons, Alpha Center, Manchester Knits, Nice & Lovely, Steel Makers, Rea, Prime Cartons, Yocean Group, Kenbro, Saj Ceramics, Viraj Complex, Patmos, Laneeb Plastics, Chemical & Solvent, Nyoro Construction, Kenbelt, KenGen Godowns, Label Converters, and adjacent customers. The outage in these areas is scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In Kiambu County, parts of JKUAT University, Juja Town, and Kenyatta Road will be affected. The blackout will occur from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Impacted areas include New Wood Estate, Kalimoni Secondary, Star of Hope Estate, Kwa Woria, Bristar Girls School, Theta Hotel, Faith Estate, Gate C, St. Peters School, parts of Gachororo, Juja Police Station, Elmark Estate, Juja Main Stage, Green Field Estate, Juja Sewage, Juja South, Kanini Farm Estate, Kenyatta Road, Turraco Village, Superhighway Estate, Juja Pulp, Silvercoin, Cura Complex, Juja Slaughter, Highplast Industries, Mungetho Shopping Centre, Gachororo kwa Chief, St. Gachororo Dispensary, Gachororo Slaughter, Paul Gachororo, Benvar Farm, Kuraiha Estate, Highpoint, Kigwe, Witeithie, Mangu High School, Kibute, and adjacent customers.
Trans Nzoia County will also experience outages affecting Kitale Town, Kisawai, and Saboti. Areas like Wamuini Centre, St. Joseph’s Boys High School, St. Joseph’s Girls High School, Kitale Airport, Birunda, Makhele, Machewa, Koikoi, Lukhome, Nyasiland, Western Seed Company, Kakunga, Lukosi, Kiungani, Toll Market, Baraton, Sister Fridah Hospital, Kinyoro, Panocal International, Saboti, Muroki, Elgon Tea Factory, Kapretwa, Mengo, Gitwamba, Olkadongo, Manor House College, Nakami Farm, Museum, Laini Moja, County Government Offices, Kephis, Moi Avenue, Vision Gate, Transmatt, Nyayo Market, District Hospital, Milimani, Shimo la Tewa, Ambwere Plaza, Endebes Market, Suam Market, Centre Kwanza, Lessos Centre, and Namanjalala Centre will be affected.
Additionally, Gumo’s Place, Gatua Centre, Annex Prison, Bidii Centre, Kitale Club, Jovenah, District Hospital, Cherangany Hospital, Tum’s Factory, GSU Kolongolo, GSU Kirita, Mitume, Matisi, Tuwani, Liavo, Seed Drier, Lukhuna, Kitale Industries, Bidii, KCC Factory, Namawanga, Stage Choma, Skynest, All Saints, Section 6, Section 19, Swara, Vet Nary, Chorlim, Mt. Elgon KWS & KFS, Soy Mining, Bull Station, Sabwani ADC, Kapkoi, Katuke Carlo, Referral Hospital, Lovington, Rafiki, Manor House, Kitalale, Kitale Town, Cherangany Nursing Home, Annex Prison, Mutambo, Wamuthoni, Gatua, Village Inn, Siyenga, Sirende, Kibulwet, Siritiet, Machungwa, Maili Saba, Toro, Mainek, Lolkeringet, Amagoro, Simatwet, Chepchoina, Cheptumbelio, and adjacent customers will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Siaya County will see outages in Kitambo, Luanda Kotieno, and Chianda, including areas such as Kitambo, Oyude, Nyilima, Aram, Gagra, Ragegni, Ndigwa, Luanda Kotieno, Misori, Ndunya Water, and adjacent customers. These areas will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In Kakamega County, Kakamega Town and State Lodge will experience outages. Areas affected include KPLC Offices, Khetias Supermarket, Police Line, Shimanyiro, Eshishiru, Rosterman, Shibuli, Joyland, Ekonyero, Kakamega General Hospital, State Lodge, Milimani, Sichirai, Applegate, Mulunyu, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Lawcourt, Naivas Mall, Kefinco, Koromatangi, and adjacent customers. These outages will occur from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm for the town and from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm for State Lodge.
