The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has alerted Kenyans about the recall of substandard Sure Lubricated condoms dotted.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, the board stated that the condoms dotted, Batch No. 2405055, manufactured by Indus Medicare Private Limited have been in the market despite not complying with standards.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (“the Board”) draws public attention to the recall of the substandard sure lubricated condoms dotted, Batch No. 2405055, Manufactured by Indus Medicare Private Limited.
“The product samples did not comply with the specifications for the freedom from holes (conductivity) test performed,” the board said.
The pharmacy board further advised all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals and members of the public to stop the sale, distribution and use of the affected contraceptives.
“In light of this, the Board advises all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals, and members of the public to immediately quarantine the product and stop the further distribution, sale, issuance, or use of the affected product batch and return the product to their nearest healthcare facility or respective suppliers,” the board advised.
The pharmacy board further urged members of the public to report suspected cases of sub-standard medicines or adverse drug reactions noting that it is committed to protecting public healthcare.
“The Board encourages the public to report any suspected cases of sub-standard medicines or adverse drug reactions to the nearest healthcare facility or the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. The Board is committed to ensuring the safety and efficacy of medicines in the market to protect public health,” it stated.

Sure Condoms
In 2019, the pharmacy board recalled three different batches of Sure condoms after joint post-market surveillance with the National STI and AIDS Control Program (NASCOP) after failing to comply with the specified standard.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) in collaboration with the National STI and AIDS Control Program (NASCOP) conducted a joint post-market surveillance quality survey of selected medical products and health technologies used in Kenya,” reads PPB statement via its official website.
