The High Court on Monday stopped the vetting of Mike Sonko’s deputy governor nominee until a case challenging the legality of the appointment is heard and determined.
Justice Mumbi Ngugi issued the ruling following an application by Peter Adhiambo Agoro who also sought orders to ensure Mr. Sonko does not nominate another person until the fraud case against him is concluded.
Ms Anne Kananu Mwenda’s vetting was set for Monday with Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Charles Thuo having informed MCAs that the agenda was to be a top priority of the Appointments Committee.
Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi forwarded her name to the vetting committee in January 2020.
Earlier in January, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission cleared Ms.Mwenda.
Mr. Sonko nominated Ms.Mwenda on January 6, replaced Mr.Polycarp Igather who resigned from the position two years ago.
