Former Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Soipan Tuya has embraced the opportunity extended to her by President William Ruto’s nomination to the cabinet with a resounding declaration of readiness.
As part of Ruto’s reorganization of his Cabinet, Tuya was reassigned from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday, July 23.
Sharing on her X account on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, Tuya shared her statement signalling her commitment and determination to excel in her new role within the Ministry of Defence.
Additionally, Soipan thanked the head of state for nominating her, adding that God had blessed her with the opportunity.
She pledged to give her best and serve Kenyans once she is confirmed as the cabinet secretary by the vetting committee.
“Eternally grateful to God for His favour! I thank HE President @WilliamsRuto for nominating me to serve as Cabinet Secretary Defence. Upon confirmation, I will give it my all, in service to the people of Kenya,” Tuya remarked.

Reassignment in Defence, Environment ministries
Tuya’s remarks come hours after President William Ruto reassigned Defence CS nominee Aden Duale to the Environment Ministry.
President Ruto communicated the changes through Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.
On Friday, July 19, 2024, President Ruto appointed 10 CSs and the Attorney General to his Cabinet. Among the nominated CSs was Duale who was to head the Defence Ministry.
In a statement on X, Duale thanked the President for reassigning him to the environment docket. He further added that he looks forward to serving in his new role.
“I am grateful to President William Ruto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring the focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts,” Duale said.
