Nominated Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale Bare has been reassigned and moved from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
Soipan Tuya who served in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
The swap of roles was revealed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, when the Parliament sessions resumed.
“Rosalinda Soipan Tuya Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Defence… Aden Bare Duale, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry,” Wetang’ula read out the names amidst shouts from the lawmakers.
Wetang’ula thereafter referred the letter from President William Ruto to the Committee of Appointments which he indicated they would have 28 days to submit their report to the House to enable the MPs to consider the nominees.
Duale Appreciation statement
Following the reassignment, Duale issued a statement appreciating President William Ruto for the new role.
Duale noted that he was ready to serve in the new docket if approved by the Committee of Appointments.
“I am Grateful to President William Ruto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
“I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring the focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts,” Duale stated.
“Indeed, ‘And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows, but you do not know.’ – Quran 2:216.”
Ruto’s First 11
Duale and Soipan were among the 11 members who were nominated by President Ruto following the dismissal of the Cabinet.
Nominees from the immediate past Cabinet are Prof Kithure Kindiki (Interior and National Administration), Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works, Urban Development and Housing), and Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport).
Rebecca Miano is the Attorney-General nominee.
The new faces nominated to Cabinet are Dr Debra Mulongo Barasa (Health), Mr Julius Migosi Ogamba (Education), Dr Andrew Mwihia Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Mr Eric Muriithi Muuga (Water, Sanitation and Irrigation) and Ms Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (Information, Communication and Digital Economy).
