Skywards Airlines clarifies reports on plane failed landing in Eldoret
By William Muthama, August 24, 2025Skyward Airlines has moved to clear the air over reports that one of its aircraft had failed to land at Eldoret International Airport under unclear circumstances.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 24, 2025, through their X account, the airline clarified that its aircraft, registered as 5Y-SMK (DHC-8), was not on a commercial service but was instead carrying out a scheduled training exercise.
According to the airline, the training was conducted in line with aviation requirements and regulatory standards to ensure crew competence and operational safety.
Routine training exercise
The carrier emphasised that there were no passengers on board during the exercise.
“We wish to confirm that the mentioned aircraft was not operating a commercial flight but was instead engaged in a routine crew training exercise, in line with aviation training requirements and regulatory standards,” the statement read in part.

The airline further reassured the public that the exercise concluded without incident. The aircraft successfully returned to Wilson Airport in Nairobi after the training session.
Skyward Airlines said it remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and compliance with aviation regulations.
“We remain committed to professionalism and regulatory compliance, and safety remains our top priority,” the statement added.
Social media claims
The clarification comes after claims spread on social media suggesting that a Fly Skyward Express flight carrying passengers failed to land at Eldoret International Airport despite several attempts and eventually diverted back to Nairobi.
The posts fueled confusion and anxiety, with some users speculating on possible technical issues.
However, the airline has moved to set the record straight, stressing that no passengers were affected since the flight was not a commercial service.
It added that all its operations remain normal and that the training exercise was a standard procedure required to keep flight crews updated and competent.
“There were no passengers on board during this training activity,” the airline clarified.
