Six more test positive for coronavirus disease, total now 197

Six more people have tested positive for coronavirus disease, bringing to 197 the number of confirmed cases in Kenya.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Ministry of Health said that it tested 766 samples in the last 24 hours, out of which six were positive.

“Of the six case, five are male while one is female. Five of them are Kenyan nationals while one is a foreign citizen,” said MOH on Sunday, April 12.

Four of the new Covid-19 cases are in Nairobi and the other two in Mombasa and Siaya counties.

The ministry said that two of the six confirmed cases have a history of recent foreign travel from the Middle East while one recently travelled from Mombasa.

The other three, according to the ministry, have no history of recent travel.

The six new cases are aged between 25 and 59 years.

Further, the ministry revealed that five of the new cases were from mandatory quarantine centres while one was picked by surveillance teams.

Coronavirus deaths in the country have also increased after one patient in Siaya County died, bring the toll in Kenya to eight.

“A total of 2,160 contacts have been monitored, out of which 1,660 have been discharged. Five hundred contacts are being followed at the moment. A total of 7,449 samples have been tested since the onset of the disease in the country,” said Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
