The tarmacking of Kinamba-Rumuruti Road by the national government has brought joy among local residents.
Locals had decried dusty streets, poor drainage and impassable roads before the Sh2.1 billion project was implemented.
“We are happy that Kinamba now has a new face and this development will make it grow faster in the coming years than before. Secondly, we, who have been buying shoes every month are very lucky since we will be walking in slippers as the road is clean,” said Mary wambui a resident of Laikipia West Constituency.
According to Samson Mwangi, traders will also get a chance to develop their businesses, while the locals will benefit from the promised street lights.
“Kinamba has been ever dusty and furthermore we have been incurring losses at the market as our foodstuffs gathered dust driving away customers. I would like to request the government to consider installing street lights which are necessary for security in this town,” added Mwangi.
In addition, the residents told off politicians who used the projects to sow political divisions, saying all development projects were welcome regardless of who initiated them.
“We are happy the Jubilee government brought tarmack in our villages. Let no one politicize the project. With good roads, we are able to do our jobs well, the businesses will expand and additional jobs will be created,” said Brian Wanjau, adding that visitors will no longer refer the town as a bush.
According to Laikipia West MP, Patrick Mariru, the 38km Kinamba-Rumuruti road cost Sh2.1 billion.
Mariru, who spoke while touring the project, asked the county government to install street lights which he maintained will boost the local economy.
