Senator Thang’wa insists Gachagua is a truthful man, warns govt against arrest plans
By Steve Ireri, August 9, 2025Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has described former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a man of unwavering truthfulness and issued a stern warning to the government against any attempts to arrest him upon his imminent return from the United States.
Speaking in Kitui on Saturday, August 9, 2025, the senator lauded Gachagua’s courage in exposing malpractices within the corridors of power, emphasising that many of his assertions have since been substantiated.
“Gachagua is a man who speaks only the truth. It is unjustifiable to brand him dishonest or misleading,” he declared.
The senator recalled how Gachagua had previously warned that President Ruto was using certain police officers to harass and intimidate citizens, saying the warning has now been corroborated by recent events.
“You cannot say Rigathi is dishonest. He told us that Ruto has police officers who harass people, and now we have seen that happen. Then Rigathi told Ruto that he was doing business with criminals in Somalia and Sudan, and now we have heard about that, too. So, what else is there to say?”
Addressing critics, Senator Thang’wa urged restraint, insisting that no one should attempt to tarnish the reputation of Gachagua.
He also included veteran politician Kalonzo Musyoka, saying no one should try to intimidate him for speaking against the Kenya Kwanza regime.
“We, the people of Mt Kenya, stood firmly behind President Ruto during the elections, and we continue to stand by that choice. Our confidence in these leaders remains steadfast.”
The senator expressed deep disappointment with the current administration’s performance, lamenting the failure to deliver on the much-publicised bottom-up economic agenda.
He recalled how Ruto had promised to support hustlers using wheelbarrows, describing the idea as unrealistic since a wheelbarrow cannot effectively transport people from one place to another.
“When Ruto spoke, his words seemed truthful, but we have come to realise they were hollow promises. The image of carrying the people on a wheelbarrow from the bottom is futile when the wheelbarrow itself cannot move forward. This is the harsh reality.”

The senator also recalled how Ruto employed every means to woo voters in 2022, saying the final straw that broke the camel’s back for them was when he began using the Bible to convince them he was a chosen leader.
“When Ruto held the Bible, we believed him because we are a people who cherish God and honesty. But witnessing repeated missteps has been deeply disappointing. Making a mistake is forgivable; repeating it is not. This is why we are united in our resolve to effect change,” he said.
