Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has directed that the Inspector General of Police and the County Commissioner of Isiolo County beef up the security of Senator Fatuma Dullo after Governor Abdi Guyo survived impeachment.

In his order, Kingi underscored the gravity of the security concerns raised by Dullo, noting that the senator had expressed serious fears about the security situation in Isiolo County.

“In the course of her contribution, the senator for Isiolo County, Fatuma Dullo, has expressed serious fears about the security situation in Isiolo County. Dullo has expressed concerns, particularly that after these impeachment proceedings, neither the County Assembly of Isiolo nor herself are safe,” Kingi remarked.

Communication to IG

“The security of all persons is not a matter to be taken lightly. The security of the senator must similarly be assured. I therefore direct that the extract of the Hansard in relation to the concerns expressed by the senator be obtained by the office of the clerk of the senate and be addressed in a letter to the Inspector General of Police as well as the County Commissioner of Isiolo for the information and necessary action,” he ordered.

Senator Dullo had expressed fears for her life after the Senate voted to save the embattled governor from the impeachment charges.

“Isiolo is not safe after today. The Assembly is not safe after today. I am not safe after today. I can see people who normally fight me on social media are all here watching. I don’t think that the assembly will have the guts to bring any motions to this house,” Dullo said.

In the decisive vote, 31 senators sided with the objections raised by Guyo’s legal team that the Isiolo County Assembly failed to follow due process in impeaching the Governor, effectively terminating the impeachment motion, while 12 voted to proceed with the trial.

Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, who moved the motion, said the Assembly’s process raised constitutional red flags.

“This House must insist on procedural compliance if the integrity of devolution and the rule of law are to be upheld,” Cheruiyot said.
