Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday said the House will reconvene on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, to consider the impeachment of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waitutu.

Mr Waititu had written to the Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka, claiming that the impeachment by MCAs did not meet the constitutional threshold.

“We are going to have a special sitting on the 21st of this month to discuss the matter of kiambu. The Senate will convene on the 21st to decide whether they will listen to the impeachment in the House or we are going to form a special committee to advise the House,” said Senator Murkomen.

The embattled Kiambu governor was impeached on Thursday, December 19, 2019, with 63 MCAs having voted to sent him home. Only one MCA voted to save the governor even though 28 ward representatives missed the session.

The ward reps said Waititu had violated the Constitution, the County Government Act, 2012, Public Finance Management Act, 2012 and Public Procurement and Disposable Act 2015.

They also claimed that Waititu’s administration was not transparent and incurred unsustainable debts.

Further, the ward reps accused Waititu of disregarded the county assembly as an arm of the county government by diverting funds intended for use by the assembly to projects where he would obtain personal benefits through irregular procurement.
