Two security staff who worked at the Sarova Stanley Hotel as outsourced workers have been charged with intercepting security CCTV footage which captured the Head of State’s entourage on Kenyatta Avenue.

The duo, Patrick Rading Ambogo and Janet Magoma Anyoga, who were employees of Security Fidelity Group and Robinson Security Group, worked as head of security and CCTV respectively.

They were charged with accessing the CCTV footage without authorization and authority on June 2, 2020.

The incident that they recorded later appeared on social media platforms and showed President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga on a tour of the Central Business District.

After pleading not guilty to the charges, Nairobi Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi ordered the duo released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each.

Their lawyer, Danstan Omari, told the court that the two have been out on a cash bail of Ksh5,000 each since their arrest on June 6.

While pleading for the two to be granted lenient terms, the lawyer told the court that taking footage of the Head of State was not a security risk.

He told the court that the two were only excited to see the Head of State and that they have already lost their employment.

If found guilty, the two face a five-year jail term or a fine of Sh10 million shillings each.
