A ferry commuter’s phone exploded on Tuesday morning as he tried to remove its battery.

The 9am incident threw the hundreds of passengers into panic.

No fatality or injury was reported.

The Kenya Ferry Services Limited says they have since reported the incident to police, who have taken up the matter.

“At 0900hrs on board MV Harambee, a male passenger’s faulty phone battery burst into flames as he opened its cover, our staff and police on board responded. Police investigations are ongoing,” said the Kenya Ferry in a tweet that they tagged Transport PS Esther Koimett, the Kenya Ports Authority, among other State agencies.
