Several leaders have reacted to the K24 Digital video in which a Chinese national was filmed caning a Kenyan colleague at work.

In the video, the Chinese national identified as Deng Halian, is filmed administering corporal punishment to Simon Oseko, a waiter, at work for allegedly showing up late.

Some of the leaders who are have been taken aback by the video include, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., and fiery Kenyan-Canadian lawyer Miguna Miguna.

“Save us from this modern-day slavery,” said Ms Karua, whose tweet was addressed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Office of the Public Prosecution.

The tweet appeared right below the K24 Digital video that was shared on Saturday, February 8, 2020.

However, the Makueni senator had in mind a rather punitive punishment for the offending fellow, Deng Halian.

“This fellow should be charged on Monday and deported,” said the Makueni lawmaker.

But it was the deported Kenyan lawyer’s comments that were harshest, saying that he caning of the Kenyan waiter revealed that Kenya had lost its sovereignty, democracy, economic, cultural and political dignity.

So wide was the reach of the video that the one posted on K24 twitter handle garnered over 100,000 views and 1,600 retweets.

On Facebook, the video reached nearly 250,000 accounts, had over 2,000 comments and 1,200 shares.

Following the publication of the video, DCI raided the Chez Wou restaurant in Kileleshwa where they arrested four Chinese nationals.

The culprit who was captured on film does not even have a Kenyan work permit while several of her colleagues don’t have valid visas.

Even the Kenyan popular boy band Sauti Sol was offended by the video showing the e assault on the dignity of Kenyans.
