Salasya: Duale must fix collapsing hospitals or face impeachment
By Cynthia Lodite, August 21, 2025Mumias Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has called out the Ministry of Health, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, for crippling health services at hospitals.
The legislator has accused Duale of overseeing the collapse of hospitals under the newly implemented Social Health Authority (SHA) while threatening impeachment if urgent action is not taken.
Salasya made his remarks on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in a video he shared on his official X account while publicly criticising Duale for speaking too much about the success of SHA, which, according to Salasya, is not visible.
“Duale, you speak so much in the public gallery about the successes of SHA; why have you allowed SHA to collapse the hospitals?” Salasya said.
Likewise, the Mumias Member of Parliament, speaking shortly after visiting St. Mary’s Hospital in Mumias, Salasya, expressed frustration at the deteriorating state of healthcare facilities and claimed that the SHA reforms are doing more harm than good on the ground.
“This morning at St. Mary’s Hospital, Mumias was sad indeed. The people who are eating NHIF money, the gods of the land, are watching. Aden Duale, you are killing the hospital with your SHA,” Salasya said.
Salasya remarks on impeaching Duale
On his part, Salasya described the current period as “the worst moments” for the country’s health sector, warning that lives are at stake if the system is not urgently reformed.
In addition, he also noted that SHA is a curse to the healthcare system of the country that has existed for decades.
“William Ruto, this SHA of yours is a curse to the healthcare system of this country that has been in existence for decades. I swear this is the worst moment for this country,” Salasya noted.
On the other hand, the legislator has further revealed plans of summoning the Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, to the National Assembly to explain why such hospitals are crippling.
At the time, he also noted that if it is time for impeachment, the Health CS should be impeached, calling the hospital menace unacceptable.
“We need action, and we are going to summon Duale to come to Parliament and explain, and if this is the time for impeachment, we are going to impeach somebody; this is unacceptable,” he added.
