Sabina Chege: Kindiki is only one to call shots in Mt Kenya region currently

By , July 25, 2025

Nominated MP Sabina Chege has stated that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is the most senior and influential political leader in the Mount Kenya region at present.

Speaking at K24 TV on Friday, July 25, 2025, she stated that Kindiki is the only one with the authority to rally the region’s leaders and make key decisions.

“Leadership has no vacuum. Now we have Kindiki Kithure, who is now the senior-most. The person in the highest position to call the shots and summon all of us without asking why is Kithure Kindiki, the one and only,” she stated.

Chege acknowledged the presence of respected elders in the region but insisted that Kindiki holds the power that matters in the current political landscape.

“ We have elders who are seniors that we respect. However, the person who sits at the table where the cake is being divided, a person who can give a voice currently, says, ‘This one, yes; this one, no,’ and is Kithure Kindiki,” she stated.

Gachagua

This comes a few weeks after Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party leader Rigathi Gachagua stated that he has succeeded in ring-fencing the Mount Kenya vote from the forays of President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking during a roadside rally in Vihiga County’s Luanda Market on Thursday, July 3, 2025, Gachagua indicated that he has locked Ruto out of the Mountain, and that he carries the key along wherever he goes.

“I was the deputy of Ruto, do you know him more than I do? Will you give us your leaders so that we can agree on how to take over the leadership of this country? In Mountain Kenya, I locked out Ruto, and the key is with me, I walk with it everywhere I go,” Gachagua said.

He urged the voters in the region to sever their ties with the former prime minister, Raila Odinga, and support the united opposition in their bid to form the next government in 2027.

Gachagua equally appealed to the voters, noting that he was thrown out of the Kenya Kwanza administration for siding with his Luhya ‘cousins.’
