Ruto meets Chinese construction boss ahead of Rironi-Mau road groundbreaking

President William Ruto has held a meeting with China Communications Construction Company President Zhang Bingman at State House, Nairobi, ahead of the official Rironi Mau Summit groundbreaking ceremony.

In a post on his official X account, Ruto confirmed that the construction of the dualling of the 170 km Rironi-Naivasha-Mau Summit road will kick off on November 28, 2025, with a groundbreaking ceremony.

“Met China Communications Construction Company President Zhang Bingman, State House, Nairobi, whose subsidiary, China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC), will be building the road,” Ruto said.

On his part, the construction will be a boost in trade along the Northern Corridor between Nairobi and Western Kenya, bringing an end to decades of agonizing traffic gridlock, congestion, delays, and disastrous accidents.

“The dualling of the 170 km Rironi-Naivasha-Mau Summit road begins on November 28, 2025. This will herald a major milestone for this critical part of the Northern Corridor between Nairobi and Western Kenya, facilitating movement and boosting trade and, at the same time, bringing an end to decades of agonizing traffic gridlock, congestion, delays, and disastrous accidents,” Ruto said.

Rironi Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road

Ruto confirmed the groundbreaking for a section of at least 58 km of the dualling of the Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road, which will lead to a highway serving the southern part of Kenya.

“On the same day, we will also break ground for the 58 km dualling of the Rironi-Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road, opening new frontiers on a highway that serves the southern part of our country,” Ruto added.

President Ruto further lauded the Chinese companies’ contribution to Kenya’s infrastructure development, listing key flagship projects including the Standard Gauge Railway and the Nairobi Expressway.

“Infrastructure development in our country has made a huge leap forward courtesy of the strong and deep relations between Kenya and China and Chinese companies. Consequently, we have been able to implement key flagship projects, including the Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Expressway, and many roads,” Ruto said.

He also revealed underway infrastructure developments in partnership with Chinese companies, including the Talanta Sports City, 21 other stadia, the Bomas Convention Centre, and the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road.

“Major infrastructure projects by our partners are underway, including the Talanta Sports City, 21 other stadia, the Bomas Convention Centre, and the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road. Additionally, several key projects are in the pipeline, such as the extension of the railway to Kisumu and Malaba and the construction of Galana Dam in Tana River County,” he added.
