President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday chaired a Jubilee Coalition National Assembly Parliamentary (PG) meeting at State House, Nairobi, where new party leadership roles where effected.

In a statement issued after the meeting, State House Spokeswoman Kanze Dena revealed that Deputy President (DP) William Ruto also attended the PG meeting although he skipped last month’s event for senators.

Ms. Dena revealed that a total of 212 Members of Parliament and the party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju were in attendance.

“Today’s Parliamentary Group meeting endorsed Justin B Muturi to continue serving as the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Cheboi to continue serving as the Deputy Speaker, Adan Duale to continue serving as the Majority Leader in the National Assembly, and Jimmy Angwenyi to continue serving as the Deputy Majority Leader,” said State House.

In addition, Kipipiri MP Amos Muhinga Kimunya, whom many speculated was to replace Duale as Speaker, was appointed to serve as the Secretary of the Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group.

However, there were casualties in the leadership changes as Mumias East MP Benjamin Jomo Washiali and Nominated Cecily Mbarire were replaced as Majority Whip and Deputy Whip.

The two were replaced by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Igembe North MP Richard Maoka Maore as Majority Whip and Deputy Whip respectively.

Before the meeting, it wasn’t clear if DP Ruto would attend the Parliamentary Group event since he had skipped the Jubilee PG for senators last month.

In the Senate’s Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting, Dr. Ruto’s key allies were tossed out of House leadership roles.

However, contrary to reports of falling out between the ruling duo, during the Madaraka Day celebrations on Monday, President Kenyatta and Dr. Ruto appeared to have rekindled their camaraderie.

The two top leaders even wore matching ties and spoke at length at the conclusion of the ceremony.
