Ruth Odinga says family was scared to announce Beryl Achieng’s death

Speaking during Achieng’s Holy Mass and mini fundraiser event on Sunday evening, November 30, 2025, at Mwingi Villas in Kileleshwa, Ruth said that they were afraid to publicly announce the death of their sister, which came a few weeks after Raila’s burial.

She further expressed gratitude to those who came to support the family during the difficult time.
“We were even scared to tell people that we got another death because, you know, it is not easy, but being here for us makes us strong. I want to say thank you to my colleagues who have come to stand with me,” Ruth Odinga said.

Financial support
This comes after the Odinga family appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to support funeral arrangements for the late Achieng.
In a heartfelt message shared on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Ruth Odinga announced that a Holy Mass and mini fundraiser will be held this evening, November 30, 2025, at House No. 5, Mwingi Villas on Mwingi Road in Kileleshwa, starting at 4:00 p.m.
Ruth, in a poster shared via her official Facebook account, described the gathering as an evening of prayer, remembrance, and unity, calling on friends, relatives, and supporters to join the family as they honour the life and legacy of Beryl.

“In Loving Memory of BERYL A. ODINGA. Holy Mass & Mini Fundraiser, Sunday, 30th of November 2025, House no.5, Mwingi Villas, Mwingi Road, Kileleshwa, 4 p.m. Join us for an evening of prayer, remembrance, and support as we honour the life and legacy of Beryl Achieng Odinga,” part of the message on the poster read.
Kenyans willing to assist have been asked to channel their support through the Beryl Achieng Odinga Funeral Fund, using Paybill: 8002413, and to enter their full names as the account number.
“Together, we extend our heartfelt comfort and solidarity to the family she loved so dearly. With love, please send your support to: Beryl Achieng Odinga Funeral Fund, Paybill: 8002413, A/C Name: Your Full Name. Rest in eternal peace, Beryl,” the message read.

Beryl Achieng’s death
The late Beryl Achieng, remembered by family and friends as warm, compassionate, and deeply connected to her loved ones, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Beryl was the daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first vice president, and Mary Ajuma Oginga.
She was a devoted mother to three children, Ami, Auma, and Chizi, and was widely known among family and friends for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for her loved ones.
Her death came just weeks after the nation mourned the passing of her brother, Raila Odinga.
