National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge spent Monday night at Muthaiga Police Station from where they were taken to court.
Police sources said the CS was not accorded any preferential treatment and used the same facilities with other suspects, including spending the night on the cell floor without a blanket or mattress.
It was only in the morning that the CS was brought breakfast by his wife before they were taken to court Rotich and Thugge, together with other suspects, were woken up at around 5 am and at around 6.20 am were taken to Pangani Police Station where they were joined by other suspects who had been brought from Eldoret.
The police van then proceeded to Parklands Police Station where Nemaboss Geoffrey Wahungu was picked.
Sources said the decision not to give the two special treatment may have been informed by the action taken against the station’s command after officers allowed State House Digital Communication boss Dennis Itumbi’s friends unlimited access to the station.
But on Tuesday night, the Treasury bosses were spared a similar experience after posting bail late.
The delay would have seen them languish for another night at Industrial Area Prison.
The case will be mentioned on August 8.
