Details of what Lawrence Warunge told detectives attached to Rweno police station in Kiambu County when he was being grilled over the killings of his family members can now be revealed.

Warunge confessed to the police that he was the one who ended the lives of four family members and their farmhand.

A detective privy to the ongoing investigation told Mediamax Digital that Warunge said that he first started by murdering their farmhand.

“He said that he then opened their gate, went and killed the mother and two children,” the detective, who spoke in anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said.

In his statement, the main suspect, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, said that his father, Nicholas Njoroge, attempted to escape through the balcony where he hit an electric wire and fell down.

Lawrence then followed him to the gate where he stabbed and killed him on the spot.

After he established that he had ended the lives of all the people in the house, the suspect went and dumped the killer knife at a nearby river and fled.

However, detectives investigating the case had been informed that Lawrence’s differences with his family ran deep as he had reported his parents to the police in earlier incident.

After the killings were revealed, officers tracked his phone signal and when he switched it on, he was located in Mai Mahiu area in Narok County.

When asked what he had gone to do there, Lawrence led the homicide detectives to a pit latrine where he disposed key exhibits which placed him at the centre of the killings.

“The recovered items will be subjected to further forensic analysis at the DCI Forensic Lab, to provide a watertight case for the prosecution, once presented in court,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.
