Reuben Kigame: I will never run as an independent candidate
By Cynthia Lodite, September 3, 2025Gospel singer Reuben Kigame has publicly announced that he will not make the past mistake of running for president without a political party.
According to the gospel artiste he revealed that one of his biggest failures during past general elections was running independently.
The artist and activist made his remarks on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, where he stated that he will be announcing the political party that he will be running on.
“Last election, I ran as an independent candidate. This time around, I will not try that thing again. I will announce the political party that I will run on pretty soon. We are going to put up a very serious people-centered campaign,” Kigame said.
On his part, Kigame assured his supporters that his upcoming campaign will be a little bit different while revealing that he will have a very serious people-centered campaign.
“I’ll certainly be announcing my political party pretty soon that I will run on, but you can be sure that this is not going to be your usual campaign. Okay. We are going to put up a very serious people-centred campaign, and tell you what, values will be at the centre,” Kigame said.

Kigame criticizes Ruto’s leadership
While criticizing the current regime, Kigame stated, “We want people at the center, not so that we can exploit them, not so that we can impose taxes, heavier and heavier taxes, not so that we can ask what we can get from them.”
While further adding, “We must begin to have the conversation of what we give to people, not what we get out of them,’ Kigame noted.
Likewise, while campaigning for his presidential race, Kigame revealed that he comes with a solid philosophy, which, according to him, is what Kenya deserves.
“And so what’s unique about this is that Ruben Kigame comes with a solid philosophy because you can’t lead without a philosophy,” he firmly stated.
Kigame reflected back on Kenya’s second president, Daniel Moi’s leadership, whereby he acknowledged the importance of having a philosophy.
“Moi had peace, love, and unity, but not very strong. My philosophy is utu haki na maadili, you know, human dignity, justice, and values. Once you have that philosophy in place, you know that utu looks at you as a human being. I don’t first ask your second name,” Kigame said.
He concluded with, “When I see young people, I don’t see them as leaders of tomorrow. They’re leading in their spheres,” he said.
