Siaya Governor Rasanga has formed a five-member team to investigate the controversial burial of James Oyugi Onyango who allegedly succumbed to Covid-19 virus.

Rasanga, who termed the burial barbaric, vowed to punish those who mishandled the body.

“I watched the burial clip of Oyugi in a local television and felt pain as a human being. It was ungodly,” said Rasanga, adding that it was such a barbaric burial that ought not to happen in our society.

Rasanga, who is the co-chair of Siaya Emergency Response Team, said the burial exercise was wrongly done at the wrong time and that he will act on recommendations on the reports from the set committee headed by his Governance Minister Dismas Wakla.

Other members include the governor’s Health Advisor Samwel Ochola, brother to the deceased Zack Onyango, Siaya County Police Commandant Francis Kooli and Provost Atong’ (a religious leader from ACK church).

“We have given the inquiry team a week to investigate and gives reports on controversial burial in a weeks’ time for us to make steps that may shock Siaya people,” said Rasanga, adding that the way of the disposal as per the clip was not the best.
