State funeral with full military honours

The President announced that Raila Odinga will be accorded a State Funeral.

“That Prime Minister Raila Odinga shall be accorded a State Funeral, with military honours and the attendant State protocols being rendered and observed,” read part of Ruto’s statement.

The State Funeral will recognise Raila’s immense contribution to Kenya’s political history.

National flag to fly at half-mast

Ruto also directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast at State House, all public buildings, diplomatic missions, and military bases across the country until the day of burial.

The same applies to all naval vessels belonging to the Republic of Kenya. This gesture symbolises the country’s collective grief and respect for Raila’s legacy.

Suspension of flags on official vehicles

The President further ordered that top government officials refrain from flying the national flag on their official motor vehicles until sunset on the day of Raila’s interment.

“That the President, the Deputy-President, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Justice, Cabinet Secretaries, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Speaker of the Senate, Kenya’s diplomats abroad, and whomsoever else is so authorised by law, shall not fly the national flag on their official motor vehicles from today until sunset on the day of his interment,” the statement read.
