Opposition leader Raila Odinga has urged Busia County residents to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying the document will address historical injustices.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of the late John Okinda at Murende village in Busia on Saturday, Raila said that a number of Kenyans lost their land during the 2007 post-election violence.

“The injustice encountered by the late Okinda whose 500-acre farm was grabbed in Kitale during the post-election violence is a pointer to why BBI needs the support of all Kenyans,” he said.

He told Busia Senator Amos Wako and his Bungoma counterpart Moses Wetangula to follow up and ensure that the family is compensated.

“Apart from Okinda, other people who lost their land parcels under similar circumstances should be compensated,” he said adding that BBI will cushion Kenyans from such violations.

The Orange Democratic Movement leader said that Kenyans have a role to play to ensure that the task force comes up with a refined document.

His sentiments were echoed by Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua, Siaya Senator James Orengo, Senator Wetangula and former minister Fred Gumo who said the initiative will offer solutions to many of the problems facing Kenyans.
