PS Omollo lauds Raila’s impact on Kitui economy ahead of Mashujaa Day
By Cynthia Lodite, October 20, 2025Principal Secretary at the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has lauded the late Raila Odinga’s effort in the push for devolution, which has now earned Kitui County its first airstrip.
PS Omollo took to his official X account on Monday, October 20, 2025, where he recognised the late former prime minister’s efforts in championing devolution, which has been shaped through projects that have brought counties together.

“Devolution, one of the enduring dreams that the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga so passionately championed, continues to take shape through projects that knit our counties closer together,” Omollo said.
On his part, Raila’s contribution to devolution has enabled Kitui County, as it now has a newly built Kitui Airstrip.
He further added that guided by Raila’s vision, President William Ruto has remained steadfast in his commitment to strengthening inter-county connectivity and expanding economic frontiers across the nation.
“Guided by this vision, H.E. President @WilliamsRuto has remained steadfast in his commitment to strengthening inter-county connectivity and expanding economic frontiers across the nation. In Kitui County, that dream now takes flight with the completion of the Kitui Airstrip,” he said.

Kitui’s growth
Similarly, PS Omollo, while acknowledging the efforts of devolution to Kenyans, noted that with improved access to markets and faster movement of people and goods, local enterprises are poised for growth.
He also added that with the new airstrip, Kitui’s hospitality and service industries anticipate a fresh wave of opportunity.
“This milestone marks a transformative step toward enhancing mobility, trade, and tourism within the Eastern region and beyond. With improved access to markets and faster movement of people and goods, local enterprises are poised for growth, while Kitui’s hospitality and service industries anticipate a fresh wave of opportunity,” Omollo noted.
His remarks come at a time when Kenya is celebrating and honoring heroes whose spirit has united Kenyans.
PS Omollo, while celebrating the spirit of devolution, further welcomed Kenyans to Kitui for the Mashujaa Day celebrations, which are expected to be led by President William Ruto.
“As we honor our heroes and celebrate the spirit of devolution that unites our nation, we warmly welcome all Kenyans to Kitui for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations,” PS Omollo added.
