Protests broke out in Transmara, Narok County on Monday evening moments after security officers arrested Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno after the surfacing online of a video in which he attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta.

A contingent of police officers from Dikirr Police Station, including General Service Unit officers from a nearby camp, stormed his Mogondo residence at about 4 pm and surrounded it.

Word, however, spread fast over the impending arrest and hundreds of his supporters trooped to his home where they attempted to stop the officers from effecting the arrest.

As the crowd grew larger and surged towards the home, the officers had to shoot in the air disperse them.

However, the MP emerged from his home and was escorted to the station by officers in the company of his supporters.

It was unclear why he was arrested but sources revealed to People Daily that was to be questioned over his utterances in the five-minute clip in which he directed personal attacks against members of the First Family.

The outspoken MP had on Sunday while attending a function at Murkan in Transmara, told President Kenyatta to be prepared to leave office in 2022 once his term ends and that he should not dictate as to who should succeed him.

This is now the third time Ng’eno is being arrested having been earlier arrested in parts of Narok South twice.

The local police boss was not immediately available to reveal why the MP was arrested.
