Members of Kenya Union of County Government Workers – Nairobi branch, have come out to protest in solidarity with their Nairobi County colleagues who are allegedly finding it difficult to operate at the City Hall Annex due to poor working environment that also touches on non-functioning toilets and lifts.

The workers have vowed not to get inside offices until a pending bill is paid to restore the lifts and repair the toilets. The collective bill reportedly stands at Ksh5 million.

According to the KUCGW – Nairobi Branch Secretary Festus Ngari, the situation puts the workers at risk.

“Our members face occupational risks all the time due to poor working conditions. The union wants the lifts restored and the toilets repaired,” Festus said.

They accuse Governor Anne Kananu of ignoring them, and have now resolved to lock her office entrance until their woes are listened to and resolved.

In their letter dated February 10, 2022, they said the productivity of the workers and clients visiting the offices for services has reduced over the past five months due to the bad working conditions.

“City Hall Annex has 14 floors and the lifts have not been working for the last five months. The staff and members of the public have had problems accessing services. We have written letters to the management but they have not been keen on solving the issue,” Calvins Okello, the Assistant Secretary of the union said.

It has been revealed that some of the disabled workers have not been able to report to work for the past months due to the issue.
