Primary, secondary school learners to be taught through YouTube: Magoha

Primary and secondary school learners will start home-based learning from Monday, March 23, the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced on Wednesday.

Prof Magoha said that the government will facilitate learning through radio, television, YouTube and the Kenya Education Cloud for the 15 million learners who were sent home in wake of coronavirus outbreak.

The CS said the Ministry of Education has partnered with the Kenya Broadcasting Services to broadcast radio programmes daily from Monday to Friday through Radio Taifa and English Service.

“Radio Taifa lessons will run from 10 am to 11 am. The English Service lessons will run from 9.15 am to 12 pm, and from 2 pm to 4 pm,” said Prof Magoha in a statement to newsrooms.

For television learning, Prof Magoha said lessons will be transmitted on the Kenya Institute and Curriculum Development Edu-Channel TV.

The channel is available on Signet Free to air. The programme will also be available on www.kicd.ac.ke

The content from Edu-Channel TV will be uploaded to their YouTube channel.

Learners can also access digital content from all KICD approved materials from the Kenya Education Cloud on www.kec.ac.ke, said Prof Magoha.
