President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Thursday afternoon (April 16) address the nation in regard to the coronavirus situation in the country.
A daily COVID-19 updates briefing that is usually held by the Health ministry officials, including Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, or the acting Director General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, was replaced Thursday by the president’s planned address.
Ministry of Health was to address journalists at 3pm on the coronavirus new infections, recoveries or deaths registered thus far.
“Hello, our press briefing has been put off. H.E. (Uhuru Kenyatta) will address the nation on the same from State House,” said a message from the Ministry of Health communications rep.
The exact time that the Head of State will make the address remains unclear.
Kenya has so far recorded 225 cases of coronavirus, with nine new infections registered on Wednesday, April 15.
The country currently has 63 closed cases (53 recoveries and 10 deaths), and 162 active cases.
The 162 COVID-19 patients are quarantined in different isolation centres across Kenya.
