Politics aside: Kiambu senator Thang’wa mourns death of Ichung’wah’s dad
By David Nthua, September 5, 2025Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, on Friday, September 5, 2025, decided to pause his political differences with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah for a moment to express regret over the unfortunate passing of Ichung’wah’s father.
Through his X handle, Thang’wa admitted he fully understands what his colleague is going through, having lost his own father at a tender age.
“Having lost my father at the tender age of 13, I deeply understand the pain and emptiness that comes with losing a parent.

“I therefore wish to solemnly convey my heartfelt condolences to Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, his family, and friends on the passing of his beloved father, Mzee Isaac Ngugi.
“May the Almighty grant you strength and peace during this difficult season. Take comfort in knowing that Mzee Ngugi’s legacy will continue to shine through you and your family,” Thang’wa stated.
The two leaders belong to opposing political camps, with Ichung’wah being a key defender of President William Ruto, while Thang’wa remains one of the most vocal allies of Democracy for Citizens’ Party leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Messages of sympathy from top leaders
President William Ruto also mourned Mzee Isaac Ngugi, describing him as an industrious Kenyan who left behind a strong legacy.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah.
“He was an industrious and astute businessman and one of the brains behind the founding of Kikuyu Town.
“Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mzee,” Ruto said.
Makadara MP George Aladwa joined in, noting that losing a parent is an unimaginable pain.
“Losing a parent is a nightmare no child wishes to face. I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mzee Isac Ichung’wah, beloved father to the Majority Leader of the National Assembly,” Aladwa wrote.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said Ichung’wah’s father lived a long and fulfilling life.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi.
“Mzee Ngugi, who passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, lived a remarkable 105 years,” Wetang’ula stated.
