Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President, Nelson Havi, has castigated the police over their handling of a case in which their colleague chopped the hand of a Makueni-based lawyer.

The police released three reports into the incident in which police constable, Nancy Njeri, assaulted with a machete (panga), one Onesmus Masaku at his house, seriously injuring the lawyer on Wednesday night.

In their report, the police constable claimed that she was acting in self-defense, accusing the advocate of attempted rape.

But the LSK President, speaking on his Twitter handle, begged to differ with the police narrative, saying the whole thing was an attempted murder cover-up.

The policewoman was later arrested and taken to the Makueni Police Station, where she works, over the incident as investigations commenced.

Njeri, is said to have attacked with a machete, Onesmus Masaku, inflicting deep cuts on his hands.

She also sustained injuries during the incident on her left ear and fingers.

The lawyer, who practices his trade in Makueni County was first treated at the Makueni Referral Hospital and transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital after his condition worsened.

Police have launched investigations into the incident with information of what transpired between the duo fuzzy.

According to the first police report, the incident occurred at the lawyer’s house in Wote township where he had allegedly invited her with an aim of introducing her to his would-be wife.

While in the house, Njeri said, the advocate demanded sexual intercourse but she turned him down.

The policewoman told the police that the lawyer became aggressive and started pushing her towards his bedroom.

It was then that she grabbed a machete and cut him on both hands, managing to escape.

She told the police that she sustained injuries on her ear and was bitten on her hands and fingers by the lawyer during the fight.
