Two police officers in Matuga, Kwale County have been interdicted on half-pay over corruption allegations.

Police constables, Simon Peter Lumiti and Joash Miroro Kebande, were recorded on video bargaining with a civilian on bribe payment.

The policemen, based at the Kwale Police Station, had been deployed at Ngombeni area within Matuga Sub-County to enforce partial lockdown following Covid-19 pandemic.

Their job was to patrol porous routes heading to the neighbouring Mombasa County.

The corruption incident was captured on video on Saturday, April 18, haggling with a civilian over the amount of money to part with to get away with contravening restriction rules.

The officers’ articles of kit and uniform have been returned pending the outcome of the inquiry.

Their interdiction took effect on Monday, April 20.
