Namibia’s police chief has warned his officers against neglecting their duties after joining some churches.
Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga said some officers were “missing shifts” and “misusing their salaries because of those churches”.
“Dockets are missing, no instructions, vehicles are dirty, vehicles are driven all over – no control – while commanders become bishops and pastors,” he said while addressing police officers in the Ohangwena region.
He added that while he had no issue with officers enjoying their religious freedom, they had had to choose whether they wanted to remain as police officers “or become pastors”.
He has also ordered investigations to identify officers absconding from work.
