One of the accused in the murder of lawyer Willy Kimani case on Tuesday made a bizarre request before a Nairobi court.

Mr Peter Ngugi asked the court to allocate him a male lawyer, saying he was dissatisfied with the services of Mrs Nelias Kinyori.

The application, however, was strongly opposed by the state counsel and victims’ lawyer, who argued his request was discriminatory.

The state counsel said the accused should accept any lawyer given by the state.

Mr Ngugi accused Mrs Kinyori of poor representation.

The murder case failed to proceed again after three of the accused’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta failed to turn up in court citing health problems.

Mr Ombeta, who was represented by lawyer Samson Nyamberi, told Justice Jessie Lesiit that the doctor advised him to take three days bed rest.

Kimani was killed alongside his client Josephat Mwenda and a taxi driver Joseph Muiruri in June 2016.

The case will be heard from October 7-18, 2019.
