Parts of Nairobi, Kisumu and Kilifi counties to experience blackout on July 20
By Mustafa Juma, July 19, 2025Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has issued a public notice informing customers across parts of Nairobi, Kisumu, and Kilifi counties of a scheduled power outage on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
According to the utility firm, the power outage is necessary to facilitate routine maintenance on its power lines and infrastructure.
According to the notice issued on Saturday, July 19, 2025, the blackout will begin at 9:00 am and is expected to last until 5:00 pm, affecting various businesses, institutions, and residential areas.
Nairobi
In Nairobi, the power disruption will impact the Upper Hill area, including key institutions such as KPLC Ragati Office, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Britam Towers, Mwalimu Sacco, Rahimtulla Building, Asian Embassy, Flamingo Towers, Kusco Towers, TSC Building, Macure Hotel, EPRA Offices, Talenta Hella Building, Victoria Building, KRA Data Centre & Residence, Geomaps, Taidy’s Hotel, Kilimanjaro Road, Jubilee Insurance, and surrounding buildings.
“KPLC Ragati Office, Office of DPP, Britam Towers, Mwalimu Sacco, Rahimtulla Building, Asian Embassy, Flamingo Towers, Kusco Towers, TSC Building, Macure Hotel, EPRA Offices, Talenta Hella Building, Victoria Building, KRA Data Centre, Geomaps, KRA Residence, Taidys Hotel, Kilimanjaro Rd, Jubilee Insurance & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.
Kisumu
In Kisumu, the blackout will affect the Karando and Reru areas. Rapogi Mixed Secondary School, Reru Market, Akado Market, and Nyamarwaka Beach are some of the key institutions that will be affected.
“Karando Village, Karando Mkt, Kotetni & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.
“Rapogi Mix Sec Sch, Reru Mkt, Akado Mkt, Nyamarwaka Beach, Manyuanda Mkt, Osewre Water Reserve, Osewre Pri Sch & adjacent customers.”
Kilifi
In Kilifi, the Mtwapa and Kanamai areas will be affected.
Mombasa Apparel, Ashut Plastics, CBL, Coir Industries, Mzuri Sweets, Milly Fruits, Coast Fishnets, Coast Apparel, Mzuri Millers, Fuhuha EPZ, Rubis Mtwapa, and Galaxy Resort are some of the industries and institutions that will be affected.
“Mombasa Apparel, Ashut Plastics, CBL, Coir Industries, Mzuri Sweets, Milly Fruits, Coast Fishnets, Coast Apparel, Mzuri Millers, Fuhuha EPZ, Rubis Mtwapa, Galaxy Resort, Aljazeera Est, Mvita Oils, Indomie, Majengo Kanamai, Kikambala Housing, Bomani, Mwembestungu, Junju, Northcoast Medical College & adjacent customers,” the notice read.
