The parents of 38 teenagers from Kemboa Village in Ogembo, Kisii County, who were on June 20 placed under mandatory quarantine after they were caught binging on illicit liquor and allegedly engaging in a sex party, will have to part with Ksh28, 000 each to secure their release.

Kisii County Medical Social Work lead, Evans Getuma, on Thursday, July 2, sent an SMS to parents of the 38 children, asking them to pay Ksh28, 000 so that they can be reunited with the teens.

“Dear parent/guardian, this is to inform you that your daughter/son has completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine, and will be discharged upon payment of Ksh28, 000. Thanks,” reads the SMS authored by Getuma.

Thirty four (34) of the 38 teenagers were male, whereas four were female. They were aged between 14 years old and 20 years old, police said.

Fourteen (14) used condoms were on June 20 found at the party scene, a residential house in Ogembo Town. Also recovered at the scene were rolls of bhang.

Kisii County Police Commander, Jebel Munene, said — at the time — that all the 38 were taken into mandatory quarantine at Kisii High School.
