Renowned Kikuyu gospel artiste Sammy Boy is currently serving a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Sammy landed at Naivasha Maximum Prison after a conviction of robbery with violence charge turned into a life sentence early this year.
Speaking to a local station from the prison, Sammy popular for his song ‘No ira tu’ says he was first arrested in August 2015 and released on a bond of Ksh1.2 million after three months.
Since then, he has been in and out of court until December 2, 2021, when the court dropped his bond and in February this year, he was put in jail for life.
Sammy says it all went south when he was found in possession of stolen property.
He explains that the items belonged to his now-deceased friend identified as Onesmus Karanja who passed away in a road accident.
Karanja had explained to him that he was moving and needed his assistance to keep the staff mostly household items before finally relocating.
He says he was suspicious at first but since it was not the first time, he kept the property nonetheless. There were phones, laptops, gas cylinders and other house items.
It wasn’t long before he was arrested from his place in Kinoo and transferred to Gilgil police station where the crime had been reported by foreigners.
While maintaining innocence, he admits he should have reported to the police out of his suspicion, however, insists police never found any murder weapon.
He believes his lawyer failed him and has now started fighting his life sentence by repeatedly submitting requests for appeal in the high court.
“By the mercies of God, I will one day be set free,” he said in optimism.
