Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi will spend two more nights at the Nakuru Central Police Station after Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josphat Kalo said he will issue directions on his case on September 16.

In a miscellaneous application before the Nakuru Court, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission said it wants to charge the MP with five counts, including unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The state wants to detain the MP for 14 days to finalize investigations into the MP’s controversial remarks against President Uhuru Kenyatta and the scuffle that ensued at his home in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County when security officers sought to arrest him.

The police want to charge the MP with five counts: hate speech, offensive conduct, assaulting a police officer, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and resisting arrest.

Sudi, who was represented by a battery of lawyers led by Hillary Sigei, Kipchumba Karori and Law Society of Kenya council member Kipkoech Ngetich remained calm even as the two sides argued out in court.

The MPs team objected to the police application to detain him for 14 days and deny him bail.

“Sudi presented himself to the Langas police station on his own volition,” the MP’s lawyer Sigei said.

The court ordered Sudi detained at the Nakuru Central Police Station until September 16 when he will issue directions.
