Orwoba slams Murkomen over Gachagua’s arrest remarks
By Cynthia Lodite, August 11, 2025Former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has slammed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchuma Murkomen over remarks of arresting Former deputy President Rigathi Gachagua upon his arrival from a US visit.
The former legislator, while speaking to K24 Amka show on Monday, August 11 2025, reflecting on the political strategies of the former Tanga Tanga movement, Orwoba noted that arrests and persecution often fueled public sympathy and strengthened support.
“It is funny that the Interior Minister is putting out these threats and talking about arresting Gachagua. Every time someone from the Tanga Tanga movement was arrested, there was a boost in terms of these are the people we believe in,” Orwoba said.
In addition, Orwoba has revealed the Government risks empowering Rigathi Gachagua by repeating the same suppression tactics they once decried.
“What happens when you are in power and have the money, you forget that actually the same mechanisms that we used when we were in opposition as Tanga Tanga movement to get into office are what the opposition is using, you are playing into their hand,” Orwoba said.
Gachagua dares Murkomen
Worth noting, Orwoba’s remarks sparked after the Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dared Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to arrest him once he returns to the country following his explosive claims linking President William Ruto to terrorism while in the United States.
At the time, while speaking during a diaspora town hall engagement at Holy Names University, San Francisco, California, USA, Gachagua addressed Murkomen’s calls to have him record a statement immediately after he landed in the country.

“I am not a leader who buys fear. I am not the one who has launched investigations against William Ruto. It is the Senate of the United States,” Gachagua said.
“I have nothing useful to tell him (Murkomen). But if the Americans want me to assist in investigations, I would, because that is where the investigations are, “Gachagua stated.
Likewise, Gachagua faulted Murkomen for allegedly controlling the National Police Service, whilst the government has reiterated on several occasions that security agencies do not receive directives from the government.
In what was a subtle dare to the government to arrest him, Gachagua reiterated that he would announce his date, time and flight ticket once he confirmed his return to Kenya.
